Can I Get Rid of Acne Scars?

Acne scars form as a result of a severe acne condition, and they can be incredibly difficult to deal with. No one wants to live with acne scars, because they are usually very noticeable and can end up causing you a lot of shame and embarrassment.

If you are one of the many people out there who is dealing with acne scars, you should know that fortunately, there are effective acne scar treatment options available to you, which is above and beyond your basic acne skin treatment and which is used specifically for acne scars.

One acne scar treatment that you can try is to use sandalwood paste on the scars. The oil from Sandalwood was popularly used medicinally in the early 20th century. Its main component beta-santalol has antimicrobial properties. Because of this antimicrobial activity, it can be used to clear skin from blackheads and spots, but it must always be properly diluted using a carrier oil. Because of its strength, this oil should never be used without diluting with a carrier oil, like sunflower seed or grapeseed oil. This will help them fade away by adding moisture and protecting the scars from further damage. Rubbing ice cubes on your scars will help in tightening up the skin, keeping you looking young.

There are also various medications available for acne scar treatment that may work for you, but you will have to get a prescription from your doctor before you can get them.

Also remember that besides using acne scar treatments, you also need to make sure that you do not make the scars worse. Staying out of the sun is very important, and using the right makeup will keep your pores from getting clogged and infectous.

Surgery is really the last resort, if you have tried all other acne scar treatment options and none of them have offered you the results that you are looking for. Some ice pick scars may be removed by “punch” excision of each individual scar. This procedure is used to improve the skin of depressed acne scars, or ice pick scars. During this treatment individual scars are cut out with aa small tool. The small wound can be closed with steri-strips, sutures, and will possibley leave a small scar, but not as obvious as the one it removed.

Skin grafting is another type of procedure that is available and used for acne scarring. This procedure may be necessary due to the extensive damage done by inflammatory acne.

The important thing, regardless of which treatment you decide to try out, is that you know there are some effective possiblities you can use or consider using that can deal with your acne scarring. Just understand that you may still have some acne scars left over after you are done with a particular remedy.
